Restaurant billing software: what owners ask us
Straight answers about RestroCompass POS for restaurants, cafés and tea stalls across India: GST bills, KOTs, printers, backups, the free trial and the plans.
Getting started
What is RestroCompass POS?
Restaurant billing software made for India. It takes orders at the table or the counter, sends KOTs to the kitchen, prints GST bills and gives you the day’s reports. It runs on a Windows PC or an Android tablet, with Android phones for your captains.
Which outlets is it for?
Restaurants, family restaurants, dhabas and club dining halls with table service, and cafés, tea stalls, snack centres, bakeries, food trucks, canteens and event stalls that bill at the counter, or both in one place. At setup you choose Restaurant, Counter or Both, and the screens you do not use stay out of the way. See how it works for restaurants, quick service, cafés, bakeries, food trucks, canteens, clubs and events.
What do I need to start?
A Windows PC or an Android tablet for the main counter, and a thermal receipt printer. For table service, add Android phones for your captains and a printer or a screen for the kitchen. They all connect over your outlet’s Wi-Fi.
How long does setup take?
The setup wizard has five short steps: your outlet, tax and bill numbers, the menu, printers, and staff PINs. You can bill as soon as it is done, and add tables and the rest later.
Can I bring my menu from my old software?
Yes. Fill in the app’s Excel menu sheet with your items and prices and import it, or type the items in. You can export the menu to Excel at any time, change the prices there and import it back.
Is there a free trial?
Yes: 30 days with every feature, on your own PC or tablet, counted from the day you set it up.
Which languages does it support?
Eight: English, Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali, chosen on each device. KOTs and bills print each dish’s name in your language under the English one, so the kitchen can read them, and the TV token board shows English with your language.
Orders and the kitchen
How do captains (waiters) take orders?
On Android phones, at the table. A captain picks the table, adds items with half or full portions and notes for the kitchen, and sends the KOT. It prints at the right station or shows on the kitchen screen straight away.
Can a KOT be changed after it is sent?
No, on purpose. A sent KOT is never edited or deleted. To cancel items, staff give a reason and a manager’s PIN; the kitchen gets a cancel KOT, and the cancellation shows in the reports and the audit log.
Does it handle several kitchen stations?
Yes. Each menu category goes to a station, such as kitchen, tandoor or bar, and each station gets only its own items, on a printer, a screen or both.
Is billing at the counter quick?
Yes. Type “2 chai” in the search box and press Enter to add two, using the item’s English name or its name in your language. A quick bill prints the bill, the KOT and the token number in one step.
Can I show token numbers on a TV?
Yes. For counter service, the counter can show the tokens being prepared and the ones ready to collect, in any browser on your Wi-Fi: a smart TV, a spare phone or a tablet.
What if a printer runs out of paper?
Nothing is lost: the order and the bill are saved before anything prints. The ticket waits in the print queue and prints when the printer is back, or goes to the station’s fallback printer, and the counter shows what has not printed.
Billing, GST and payments
Does it make GST bills?
Yes: regular GST with CGST and SGST and HSN/SAC codes, composition with a bill of supply, or no GST. Bill numbers run in order through the financial year, with your outlet’s prefix.
Can my prices include GST?
Yes. Set prices with or without tax; the bill works out CGST and SGST either way, with round-off to the nearest rupee if you want it.
Which payments does it take?
Cash with change, card, UPI, a split between them, or credit for regular customers. A bill not paid yet can print a UPI QR for the amount due, which guests pay with any UPI app.
Can I give credit to regular customers?
Yes. Put the bill on the customer’s account, take the payment later, and see who owes what in the credit due report.
Does it handle parcels and packing charges?
Yes. Mark items as parcel, even on a table order, and add a packing charge per parcel order or per parcel item, on its own line of the bill.
Can I give discounts and complimentary bills?
Yes, each with a reason. A discount above the limit you set, and every complimentary bill, needs a manager’s PIN, and both have their own report.
Devices and printers
Can I use an Android tablet instead of a PC?
Yes. The main counter can be a Windows PC or an Android tablet. Captains use Android phones.
Which printers work with it?
Thermal receipt printers, 58 mm or 80 mm, on the network, on USB with a Windows PC, or on Bluetooth with an Android device. An ordinary office printer is used only for reports, printed from a PDF.
Does the captain app work on iPhone?
No, captains use Android phones. The owner’s page and the QR menu open in the browser of any phone, iPhone included.
Can I add more billing counters?
Yes, with the Counter and Full plans: another PC or tablet bills as an extra counter. Every bill is numbered on the main counter, in one series.
Your data and safety
Does it need the internet?
No. The counter, the captains’ phones and the kitchen screens talk to each other over your outlet’s own Wi-Fi or network. When the outlet is online, the app also checks its licence and gets updates, and the owner’s phone page and the QR menu are kept up to date.
Where is my data kept?
On your own main counter device. It is backed up automatically every day, and you can keep a copy on a USB drive or on Google Drive. Only what you switch on goes online: the day’s totals for your phone, and your menu for the QR menu.
What if my PC breaks down?
Restore the latest backup on another PC or tablet, and we move your licence to it. Backups are made automatically every day, and you can keep copies on a USB drive or Google Drive.
Can staff delete bills or change sales?
No. Each person logs in with their own 4-digit PIN as owner, manager, cashier, captain or kitchen, and sees only what that role needs. Cancelled items and bills stay on record with who did it and why, and a reprinted bill says DUPLICATE.
How do updates work?
The app tells you when a new version is ready and updates in one tap. Your data is backed up first, and phones and tablets move to the same version as the main counter.
For the owner and your guests
Can I see my sales on my phone?
Yes, once you switch it on at the billing PC with your owner PIN. While the outlet is online, the day’s figures reach your phone every 20 minutes: sales, payments, top items, cancellations and discounts. Customer names and phone numbers never leave the outlet.
I have more than one outlet. Can I see them all?
Yes. Link your phone at each outlet’s billing PC, and see every outlet’s sales today on one page, side by side.
Can guests see the menu on their phones?
Yes, with the QR menu. Guests scan a code on the table and see your menu, prices and what is sold out today. It is view only: guests still order with your staff.
Does it take Swiggy and Zomato orders?
Not in this version.
Plans and the licence
How much does it cost?
Per outlet a year: Counter ₹4,999, Restaurant ₹6,999 or Full (Restaurant + Counter) ₹9,999, with every feature of the plan included. Start with a 30-day free trial; compare the plans.
Which plan do I need?
Counter is for billing at the counter with token numbers. Restaurant is for tables and captains. Full has both. Kitchen printers and screens come with every plan.
What happens when the trial or licence ends?
After the 30-day trial, or 15 days after a yearly licence ends, the app turns read-only until you renew. Reports, backups, the day-end and payments for bills already made still work; new orders and bills wait for the renewal.
Can I change my plan later?
Yes. Ask us to move you to another plan; the app picks it up the next time it checks in online.
Does the licence need the internet?
No. The licence is kept on your main counter and works offline. When the counter is online, it checks once a day for a renewal.
